Stone-built farmhouse (non-working) in Burgundy with tranquil views
A traditional South Burgundian farmhouse with 'terrasse maconnaise', renovated in 1991. The property lies on Route D91 between St Bonnet de Joux and Marizy, situated on a rise. It looks out over rolling views and has its own woods. Swimming is available locally at the Lac de Rousset, or the nearby lidos at Cluny, Charolles and St Point. The locals are friendly and the area offers excellent food and drink. There are a number of local markets in nearby towns every week.

| Notes: | A wood burning stove was installed at Christmas 1999. There is covered parking to keep your vehicle cool in summer. The property also has a six acre wood, which provides pleasant walks throughout the year. Local Markets include: Marcigny on Monday; Charolles on Wednesday; St Bonnet de Joux and Paray le Monial on Friday; and Cluny on Saturday. Visitors should provide their own bed linen and towels. |
Supplementary Information
The house has shutters and tiled floors which in hot weather keep the interior wonderfully cool. It also has a 'Z' bed and a cot, a 'clam-shell' paddling pool, Badmington set and Boule. There are also books, maps, leaflets, brochures and other material available with domestic and local information. The local area is famous for its cheese and pottery. Romanesque churches and other places of historic interest are within easy reach. Our key holder and agent is Mme. Marguerite Wider-Helfer, who lives close by in St Bonnet de Joux, tel. +33 (0)385 24 71 59.
Other Facilities
The house is centrally heated, with a combination of night storage and electric radiators, all thermostatically controlled. Electrical power is provided from French socket outlets, but there are extension leads with UK 'four-gang' socket outlets for any equipment you bring with you. Other equipment includes an electric kettle, coffee maker, hair dryer and styler; there is even a pasta maker and drying rack. The main courtyard provides an excellent, safe play area for young children, and there is covered parking available. Skysat (similar to Freview)and a 26' flat screen TV have been added to the facilities this season.
Getting There
Le Haut de Pierrechamp is around 450 miles from Calais and all but the last thirty miles is via the excellent French Peage motorway network (which means you can reach us in a day). The Peage is, by English standards only lightly trafficked, and a pleasure to drive. If however you need information about a pleasant overnight stopover, please let us know.
Golf Information:
The Golf D'Avoise course is about 20-30 minutes drive from Pierrechamp and is located opposite the TGV station at Montchanin. The course and driving range, opened nearly ten years ago, have matured well: their condition being a credit to the English professional. The course designer Hawtree, also English, should be commended for creating an attractive and challenging parkland course where water comes into play at no less than six holes. Many of the holes near the modern, well-equipped Clubhouse, (where the food is excellent, by the way) are tree-lines and require accuracy to score well, but the hole you will remember is Par 3 Eleventh, requiring a clean shot over the lake. Green fees are lower mid-week.

'We have both had a lovely relaxing stay here in this beautiful area of France. The accommodation is very well appointed - just like home - especially the dishwasher!'
